Committed to Environmentally Sustainable Solutions for A Better Tomorrow

Water is becoming a pressing societal and geopolitical issue with the risk of up to 40% of the world’s population living in water-stressed areas by 2035. Proper membrane treatment plays a vital role in helping water treatment plants achieve a positive water or net impact. Water treatment plants can achieve optimal system recovery and maximize water savings through proper evaluation of system design and operations followed by ideal chemical selection.

IMPACT TOGETHER: The Colorado River Basin Project is a sustainability initiative we are participating in for a second year through our parent company Kurita Water Industries and the Water Resilience Coalition. This initiative aligns with our goal to help increase water resilience and help our customers deliver a positive water impact on their sustainability targets.

The Drought Crisis

For the last 23 years, the Colorado River has remained in a megadrought, affecting water storage in its reservoirs, hydroelectric power production, and water accessibility for surrounding communities. This drought continues to affect reservoirs like Lake Meade and Lake Powell, which many communities in the region rely on as their primary water source.  We are facing the growing reality that water supplies for agriculture, fisheries, ecosystems, industry and cities are no longer stable.

Together, We Will Make an IMPACT

This initiative is an opportunity to help mitigate issues related to water resources in the Colorado River Basin by working with surrounding water treatment plants to optimize their membrane treatment process. Our technical experts conduct site visits where they discover opportunities to maximize system recovery and enhance operations. The technician will identify ideal pretreatment chemistries, antiscalants, and cleaners to help reduce operational pressures. This approach helps maintain membrane health and maximize service life, ensuring environmentally sustainable operations.

Smart Solutions

Proper evaluation of system design and operations combined with the right Vitec ™ antiscalant selection can achieve optimal system recovery – maximizing water production and water savings. For every thousand pounds of Vitec ™ 3000, 4000, and 7000 supplied by Avista in the Colorado River Basin states, Kurita Water Industries will donate based on the estimated water savings. Last year, Kurita donated $10,000, which they hope to double in 2024. These donations are allocated towards regional and local contributions in the states surrounding the Colorado River*.

Creating Shared Value

Our vision for building a water-resilient world starts by understanding our customer and society’s shared issues and goals around water savings, energy savings, and waste reduction creating value between businesses and communities. As the world continues to face water related issues, we will continue to create solutions that keep the world blue. Kurita Water Industries has been working on solving issues related to water resources for over 70 years. Together, we help our customers and partners address societal needs and environmental challenges caused in the membrane treatment process to make a positive environmental impact that has a long-lasting effect on generations for years to come.

We hope to continue participating in projects and campaigns that have a positive effect on the environment while creating shared value between our communities, customers, and society as a whole. We look forward to continuing this campaign into 2024 and beyond.
