Technical Services Engineer- San Marcos, CA

This position will provide phone and on-site technical support to Applications and Sales personnel and customers. Incumbent will supervise on-site application of Avista products at customer site and conduct pilot studies to evaluate the performance of Avista products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary technical support contact: resolve technical issues, handle correspondence, provide periodic updates, ensure customer satisfaction, and coordinate with staff as appropriate.
  • Troubleshoot, normalize and analyze membrane performance data
  • Supervise customer site cleanings and pilot studies to optimize membrane performance and evaluate application and performance of Avista products.
  • Support efforts to maintain sales of existing clients by managing and reducing attrition
  • Identify and resolve customer concerns and recommend a course of action as required using Avista technical tools and services
  • Support Avista laboratory and OSCAR staff as necessary to assist customers
  • Coordinate with Avista Inside Sales to prepare responses to RFP (Request for Proposals)
  • Assist Avista Marketing and Applications/Sales to prepare case study material for Avista products
  • Author and present regional training and technical papers at industry conferences and workshops
  • Up to 10-20% occasional travel in North America and internationally, as needed

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, Environmental), or equivalent experience in water treatment industry
  • 3 to 5 years of water treatment process experience or field technical service experience working with membrane systems
  • Understanding of membrane fundamentals (UF/MF/NF/RO membrane processes)
  • Understanding of basic water chemistry and pretreatment processes
  • Experience using field lab equipment for the measurement of SDI, turbidity, conductivity, spectrophotometer and colorimeters.
  • Knowledge of Clean-in-place (CIP)
  • System process knowledge to identify potential chemical opportunities.
  • Basic troubleshooting skills related to hydraulic (fluid) and electrical equipment and processes.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Organized with a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
