Impact Together: The Colorado River Basin Project

Since our inception in 1999, CEO, Dave Walker, has emphasized the importance of giving back to our communities and environment. Having worked in the water industry for most of his life, he understands the importance of potable water and sustainable water systems across the globe. When acquired by Kurita Water Industries in 2019, our corporate responsibility grew tenfold by a mutual sense of responsibility. Alongside Kurita, we have increased our initiatives through a complementary drive to make this world a better place.

On September 1st, 2022, alongside the Water Resilience Coalition (WRC), we launched the “Impact Together” campaign supporting the Colorado River Basin Project. The campaign is designed to help save water through sales of our Vitec Antiscalant product line. For every thousand pounds of Vitec 3000, 4000, and 7000 supplied by Avista in the Colorado River Basin states, Kurita will donate based on the estimated water saved by using the product to a water conservation project supported by the WRC, an initiative under the CEO Water Mandate and UN Global Compact.

This donation will help tackle climate change, protect land and water, provide food and water sustainability, and build healthy cities around the Colorado River Basin. Not only is this a great environmental philanthropy, but it also saves customers money. Our evaluation of system design and operations, combined with proper Vitec antiscalant selection, can achieve optimal system recovery maximizing water savings.

Kurita Group has been working on solving issues related to water resources for over 70 years to support their corporate philosophy: Study the properties of water, master them, and we will create an environment in which nature and humanity are in harmony. The WRC initiative aligns with this goal, to help make a water resilient world together with leading global companies and organizations.

At Avista, corporate responsibility is engrained in our culture. And because of that, there is an unspoken charitable desire within every employee to help. Whether it’s helping each other around the office, attending charity events, or signing up for marathons, generosity and consideration seem to be consistent qualities of our staff. It must be in our water!

“As citizens of the world, we all rely on clean and dependable sources of water.  Everyone at Avista and Kurita is committed to responsibly caring for this precious resource,” Dave Walker, Avista CEO and President.

The WRC strives to build a water resilient world for our communities, ecosystems, companies, and the global economy. This will be achieved through a pledge to have a net positive water impact, water resilient value chain, and global leadership. By 2030, the WRC’s goals are:

  1. Positive water impact in 100 water stressed basins that support 3 billion people
  1. Equitable and resilient WASH access to 300 million people
  1. 150 member companies who account for 1/3 of global water use

How can you get involved? Well, it’s simple. Educate yourself to become more ‘water wise’ on a daily basis at home and work. As for this project, participation is currently only available to those who reside in Colorado River Basin States (Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming). However, you can help us spread the word to anyone you think would like to participate and qualifies! Register for our upcoming webinar on Tuesday, October 18th, 2022 where Dave will speak on how you can maximize water savings while helping to preserve the environment.
